Volunteers
Needed! As with any non-profit organization, volunteers
are always needed. The Western Museum of Flight's volunteer staff is the
heartbeat and backbone of museum operations. Volunteer opportunities exist
in our aircraft restoration projects, educational programs, maintaining
and upgrading of the Dr. Ira Chart Research Library, facilities maintenance
and upkeep, museum office support, etc. Volunteer help is needed for the
following tasks and projects:

Restoration
-
Support the restoration of the following aircraft, F-86, BD-5, AQM-34K,
and the F-89
-
Build racks for the F-89 and paint aircraft and engine stands
-
Construct identification signs for all aircraft and display items
-
Prepare and paint the A-4D
-
Complete the DC-3 restoration program
Education Program, (Kids Love Avation Science,
KLAS)
-
Docents required for supporting the KLAS program. Discuss the principles
of Flight, History of aviation; Assist the children in flying the museum's
simulators,
-
Tour the children through open aircraft and general support.

Analyze pre and post test results
-
Schedule visits and deliver school material

General Office and Curator Help
-
Photograph and catalog all Western Museum of Flight display
items. Enter photos into Western Museum of Flight's computer system (Ongoing
task).

Maintain and upgrade Library. Log-in new library items, inventory
and catalog all library items in the Dr. Ira E. Chart Research Library
(Ongoing task).

Develop text for each major display item, its history including
development, basic data and when and where it was used. Do the same
for antique items such as W.W. II navigation instruments, clothing, radios,
cameras, etc.

Serve as a museum greeter at the front desk

Facility Refurbishment
-
Make engine inlet and exhaust plugs for YF-23A, YF-17, F-14A
and A-4A aircraft (must be removable).
-
Clean display engines .
-
Repair and paint engine pallets.
-
Paint J-79 engine dolly.
-
Catalog all display cases.
-
Assign identification numbers to all displays, equipment,
and models. Enter data into computer system.
-
Update and maintain floor layout showing where each display
case and display item is located.
-
Support the cleanup and re-layout of the outside displays

General Cleanup
-
Clean Museum and aircraft on display (Ongoing task).
